Wisconsin Regional Artists Association & Wisconsin Regional Artist Program

We are pleased to announce this sixty-two year old program for Wisconsin Artisans is coming to the NSAA Grafton Arts Mill; 1300 14th Ave Grafton WI. 53024. The exhibit of Regional Wisconsin Artists work will be on display June 1st – July 14th 2o12 with the Award winners going to the State Exhibition in August 2-3 and Exhibiting at the Pyle Arts Center through Sept 2012.

Dates: Paper work due 5/19/2012 Art work due. Drop off 5/26/2012 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Opening Reception 6/1/2012 6-8p.m. Workshop is July 14^th 9:30 am welcome 10 am workshop starts.

Drop-Off Day:  May 26^th 2012 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.   Bring your artwork to the second floor of the NSAA Arts Mill, 1300 14^th Ave, Grafton WI 53024. Enter through the side blue door. The building is the Historic Mill of Grafton built-in 1884; houses the Arts Mill on the 2nd floor and The Gallery is on the 3^rd Floor.

Exhibit Start/End Days:  June 1^st, 2012 through July 14^th 2012

Workshop and Pick-up Day July 14th 9:30 am – 2 p.m.

Workshop Day: July 14^th The Business of Art; Documenting you work, Promoting your Art, Social Media and Blogging.  

Arrive: 9:30-10: Am view works on display

10 am to 12 pm: Lecture Documenting and Promoting your Art through Social Media and blogging through word press by Valorie Schleicher

12 p.m. -1 p.m. Lunch

Juror: TBA

1 p.m.-2 p.m. As customary, the exhibit judge will meet with artists and workshop participants to share his comments and critique of this year’s artwork.  Artists will take their artwork with them at the conclusion of the workshop.  The workshop is open to the public—$5 fee for non-exhibitors.

2-3 pm Wrap up and take home work

About the Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP)

Who is WRAP for?

The Wisconsin Regional Art Program was established to encourage Wisconsin citizens with a serious interest in Art. People who make art purely for the love of it, rather than for fame and fortune. The purpose of WRAP is to encourage NONPROFESSIONAL ARTISTS to develop their abilities.

How does WRAP work?

The Wisconsin Regional Art Program consists of many artist workshop/exhibits that meet throughout the year statewide. Each one has a different artist demonstration or slide lecture and a different judge to lead the afternoon critique. You may enter as many Wisconsin Regional Art Workshops as you like. Your art work will be on exhibit in different communities. If your work is selected for the State Exhibit at two different workshops, you may chose which ONE you want to submit to the Madison exhibit.

Annual Exhibit/Conference

The Wisconsin Regional Artists Association (WRAA) cosponsors the Statewide Exhibit and Conference in September. Half of the awards are eligible for WRAA members only. They publish an informative newsletter, CONTOUR NOTES, four times a year. Membership is $20 a year. If you are interested in joining WRAA, contact Beverly Balakhovsky, 625 N. WRAP History

The first Rural Art Exhibit was held at the Memorial Union during Farm and Home Week in 1940. Under the guidance of John Steuart Curry, the exhibit grew rapidly, expanding from 30 nonprofessional artists in 1940 to over 100 by 1947. The energy and enthusiasm of Curry’s successor, Aaron Bohrod, the WRAP directors, James Schwalbach and Ken Kuemmerlein, and the help of the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association have continued to make the exhibition and workshops cornerstones of activity for nonprofessional artists throughout the state.

About the conference

The Annual State Art Conference will be held at the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street, Madison, WI. We hope you will join your fellow artists to receive recognition for your work. The program will include announcement of awards cosponsored by the University of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Regional Artists Association.
