Dooryard Gallery News

Some cool news to share these hot July days. First, a few notable gallery events for the calendar, including:

Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association (WIPAPA) will hold their next “open paint” in the Village of Elm Grove this Saturday, July 24. Artists will meet at the gallery at 8 a.m., then disburse to various locations in the village. The park will provide some lovely subjects; there are mature prairie plantings blooming all around the ponds. Artists will reconvene at the gallery at noon for a critique. Should be an interesting process to observe, and all are welcome. (Thanks to Wendie Thompson for coordinating this.)

Invitational: Bird Life, a group show featuring recent work by Holley Bakich, Bridget Griffith Evans, Trent Foltz, Robert J. Gehrke, Pat Hidson, Sandra Peterson, and James Popp will be at The Dooryard August 27 through September 18. Hope to see you at the opening reception Friday, August 27 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The work of fiber artist Donna Tronca will be featured at the gallery from October 9 through 30. Donna is working on a fantastic, plastic, eco art series inspired by quilt designs. Her mixed media pieces are constructed of discarded plastics which have been layered, heat-fused, colored, embellished, and completely transformed and gorgeously framed. The show opens with a reception for the artist on Saturday, October 9 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Also, some of the gallery artists have their own good news to share:

Printmaker CathyJean Clark recently had work juried into the Northern National Art Competition in Rhinelander. She will be a featured artist in Wausau’s “Exibitour” on September 18, and she’s been selected to have a solo exhibition at the UW-Madison Arboretum Steinhauser Trust Gallery in March and April of next year. CathyJean is currently participating in a group show “Multiple Views of the Universe” at Gallery 450, UW-Marshfield/Wood County (through August 1).

Jewelry artist Alaina Burnett has written an article entitled “Find Your Style” which will be featured in a special August issue of Bead&Button magazine.

Pat Hidson and artist Fran Cheney were commissioned by Uihlein Peters Gallery to create a site-specific installation for the plaza of the Saint John’s on the Lake communities. Says Pat, “We invite everyone to bring family and friends to enjoy this art installation, which includes embroidery and basketry used as both drawing and sculpting materials.” An artists’ reception will be held on Saturday, July 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1840 N. Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee. You can also visit the art during regular hours: Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

That’s the news from sunny Elm Grove, which you can distribute at will. Hope you’re enjoying the best of summer!
